It is a known fact that the antioxidants in red wine are heart healthy. Something about the mixture of the alcohol and the antioxidants are great for lowering your bad cholesterol. Drinking a glass of red wine a few nights a week good for you. I also believe that wine can improve your experience of the food you are eating. So as long as you are drinking that glass of red wine in moderation feel free to do so. If you don't want the alcohol in wine try concord red grape juice. If you don't want the calories in juice and the alcohol in wine then have green tea. These are excellent sources of antioxidants as well.

Helpful information
How to get more antioxidants in your diet.
How to taste wine in a restaurant.jbechtoldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05041000257447398769noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3249866383716347420.post-62719435349011145842009-08-07T13:36:00.000-07:002009-08-07T13:45:44.732-07:00A romantic night at home

Having a romantic night with your spouse does not meen you need to spend a lot of money. As a kid my mom would do this all the time. I live in Phoenix and it gets so hot it takes no time to brew iced tea. So here is how to do it.

Find a glass jug.
Fill with water.
Use the amount of tea bags your tea requires for your container size.
Cover so no buggies enter your brew.
Leave in direct sun light for three hours.
Remove tea bags.
Refrigerate and enjoy.

This is easy and green because you are not using heat from electricity and since you do not use heat you do not heat up your house. When it is 110 degrees out I do not use the stove unless I really have to! Instead you are using solar heat. You can use any kind of tea you would like and later mix with juice, honey and lemons.jbechtoldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05041000257447398769noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3249866383716347420.post-6728830959221171972009-06-06T13:21:00.000-07:002009-06-06T13:35:33.576-07:00Parmesan Chicken Pizza
So I came up with this recipe and wrote this ehow on it.
How to make Parmesan chicken pizza.
Now this is the recipe from scratch. Since I like to prepare things and freeze them if you use my
How to make healthy chicken strips and freeze your strips and another night make
tomato sauce with chicken sausage then freeze some of your sauce you will have all the ingredients and all you have to do is cook them. This will take less than a half hour and the actual work time will be like five minutes. This is how my minds works I make recipes that can be frozen then heated up later to make a different dish.

So once again cook the chicken strips from frozen for about 15 minutes on 450 with a drizzle of oil, then crisp your pita for 3 minutes, add your sauce that should be defrosted and put the chicken strips on and cover in cheese. Bake until the cheese is melted.

How easy is that for a wonderful kid friendly and mostly healthy pizza.jbechtoldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05041000257447398769noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3249866383716347420.post-59080541333861251962009-05-11T14:57:00.000-07:002009-05-11T14:58:53.615-07:00I want to share a new recipe.I just added a new recipe to my ehow articles How To Make Corn Salsa feel free to come and check it out.jbechtoldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05041000257447398769noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3249866383716347420.post-56237794157984136772009-05-07T18:31:00.000-07:002009-05-07T18:40:38.845-07:00Mini Burger fun
So I thought that this was a cute and fun dinner we did. I used whole wheat dinner rolls as buns and put onions on top. I served the burgers with coleslaw and roasted potatoes.

For the burger meet I used 93% lean ground beef and mixed it with grated carrots, diced red bell pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and steak seasoning mix. Then I cooked them in olive oil in a pan.

For the coleslaw I used store bought coleslaw mix and made dressing using reduced fat mayo, apple cider vinegar, and sweet hot mustard.

The potatoes I washed and sliced real thin. Then I coated them in salt, pepper, garlic, olive oil and Parmesan cheese. Then I roasted the hole thing in the oven for about 15 minutes at 450.jbechtoldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05041000257447398769noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3249866383716347420.post-65696358900968334782009-04-25T16:26:00.000-07:002009-04-25T16:27:52.281-07:00Chicken taco saladSo I just put a recipe for chicken taco salad on ehow. So since oatmeal is so cheap and so healthy I decided to play around and come up with a healthy and tasty oatmeal recipe that also adds a little fruit.

3/4 cup oats
1 cup water
1/2 cup blueberries
1/2 cup apple sauce
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons brown sugar

Bring water to a boil and add oats. Then cook for five minutes. Turn heat down to low and add the remaining ingredients. Them cook for 3 more minutes. and enjoy. You can use frozen or fresh blueberries.jbechtoldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05041000257447398769noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3249866383716347420.post-37691366623114560772009-04-21T12:54:00.000-07:002009-04-21T13:04:25.881-07:00Using ground flaxseedThe benefits of flax seed are many. They have the good omega-3 cholesterol's, they are high in fiber and are a powerful antioxidant. They help lower cholesterol and a good for developing brains. I have found a way to sneak a little into your baked goods. Use the seeds in your recipe at a 3 to 1 ratio in place of cooking fats. As an example if you have a 1/2 cup butter use 1 and a 1/2 cup ground flax seed. Or use 1/4 butter and 3/4 cup ground flax seed. Store flax seed in the freezer or fridge because it will go bad quickly at room temperature. It is also good to know that they brown more rapidly.

Here is a link to a Heart Healthy muffin recipe I make for me and my kids.jbechtoldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05041000257447398769noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3249866383716347420.post-33401863781410229362009-04-20T13:42:00.000-07:002009-04-20T14:01:30.598-07:00Juice pops for the kids
I made some juice pops with real fruit yesterday and wanted to share the recipe.

1 cup orange juice
5 strawberries

Put your OJ and berries in the blender and pulse for 10 seconds. After all they involve cleaning, cutting, peeling and cooking. But it is important to try your hardest. Here are some tips on how to sneak a few extra servings in a day.
* Add apple sauce to your oatmeal in the morning. Then when you want a salad you have the vegetables ready to mix into your lettuce from the step above. Or you can throw them in a omelet for a quicker and healthier breakfast.
* Keep them around. You can make shrimp with a white wine butter sauce and red pepper flake, add broccoli and Parmesan cheese for a yummy and simple shrimp pasta. Try something different every week so pasta does not get boring.jbechtoldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05041000257447398769noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3249866383716347420.post-12214222545208875542009-02-20T09:09:00.000-08:002009-02-20T09:14:52.071-08:00SaladHere is a salad dinner that I love to make for my family.
Mix baby romaine with shredded store bought roasted chicken, candied walnuts, apple slices, grapes and blue cheese. I have a quick and easy taco night to share with you. Steak tacos with guacamole. First take a tomato seed and dice. Seed and dice a jalapeno and dice a red onion. Chop some fresh cilantro. Mash your avocado and mix in the rest of the ingredients with a squeeze of lime salt and pepper. Grill steak and cut into strips. Grill red bell pepper and zucchini and cut those into strips. Serve with warm whole wheat tortillas family style. Hope you enjoy.jbechtoldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05041000257447398769noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3249866383716347420.post-76572939292055534762009-02-16T09:22:00.000-08:002009-02-16T09:27:32.489-08:00FishI may not be the a big fish eater but I have a few faves. Here are a few tips that can help you use less fat and more meats and vegetables.

#1 Use whole wheat instead of white breads including pizza crust and pastas. You can also cut the all purpose flour in half in your bread an muffin recipes.

#2 Add vegetables to every meal. Say you are making chili add bell peppers, tomatoes, and zucchini. If you are making chicken casserole add carrots, peas, broccoli and celery.

#3replace the meat in your recipes with lean meats. I use shredded chicken breast in chili and sloppy joe. I also use Italian chicken sausage in marinara sauce. Or go meatless.

#4 Bake instead of pan fry. This way you control how much oil you food gets. You can bread you food as usual but bake using high heat and a drizzle of oil. Flip half way through cooking. Do this with eggplant and chicken permission, chicken strips and fish for fish and chips.

#5 Use herbs and seasonings to add flavor not fat, sugar and salt. Cinnamon is sweat and can be used in muffin recipes to cut the sugar. Make your own hot cocoa and use chocolate powder, fat free milk, cinnamon, vanilla and less sugar. This will taste great and and be better for you than store bought. Whenever possible buy items with less or no salt so you have control over how much salt you eat.

#6 Add flax seed to you food. You can use it to cut down on fat in muffin recipes.

#7 Use brown rice or quinoa instead of white rice. You will need to change the fluids and times accordingly.

#8 Use buttermilk instead of sour cream or heavy cream.

#9 Cut back on the cheese on your pizza and add vegetables

All of these methods may take some experimenting when you are changing your original recipe but be creative and you will find a healthier way to enjoy the things that you love.jbechtoldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05041000257447398769noreply@blogger.com0
